Dr George William Byaruhanga Pariyo, MBChB, PhD, is a distinguished physician, public health professional, researcher, educator and health systems expert with over four decades of experience. He has published over 130 scientific articles in peer-reviewed journals, book chapters and several professional and technical reports which have contributed to health policy and practices globally. Throughout his career, Dr. Pariyo held several high-impact roles. He was Chief of Operations of Serum Africa Medical Research Institute (SAMRI) and a Senior Scientist/Research Professor in the Department of International Health at the Johns Hopkins University (JHU) Bloomberg School of Public Health. Additionally, he also served as Senior Manager and later as Senior Specialist for Outcomes and Impact at Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance in Switzerland, Geneva).
Along with his professional work, Dr. Pariyo has a history of involvement in social development and non-profit work spanning more than 35 years. He was a co-founder and Director of The Companionship of Works Association (COWA), Permanent Centre for Education, Meeting Point Kitgum, and the Founders Council of AVSI Foundation. He also currently serves as a member of the Board of Governors of Dr Ambrosoli Memorial Hospital – Kalongo.
